Role Overview

Game Designers are the creative architects of Foehammer Studios' games. They define mechanics, balance systems, design progression, document features, and ensure gameplay is engaging, fair, and fun. Game designers bridge the gap between creative vision and technical implementation, creating detailed documentation that guides programmers and artists.

This role encompasses everything from weapon balance spreadsheets and logical designs to complete game design documents (GDDs), economy systems, tutorial flows, and competitive mode frameworks. Designers use mathematical modeling, playtesting, and player psychology to create compelling gameplay experiences.

Core Responsibilities

Create Game Design Documents (GDDs): Feature specifications, technical requirements

Balance Systems: Weapon stats, TTK calculations, DPS analysis, meta diversity

Design Progression: Leveling curves, skill trees, achievements, unlock systems

Develop Economy Systems: Resource balancing, crafting, pricing, monetization

Document Mechanics: Movement systems, combat mechanics, interactions

Design Tutorials: FTUE (First Time User Experience), onboarding flows

Create Competitive Frameworks: Ranked systems, game modes, tournament structures

Conduct Playtesting: Balance reports, usability testing, metrics analysis

Collaborate Cross-Discipline: Work with programmers, artists, level designers

Iterate Based on Feedback: Refine designs based on testing and community input
