Role Overview

Narrative Designers are the storytelling architects of Foehammer Studios' games. They develop game world lore, create compelling storylines, write character backstories, design creature and object dossiers, and craft immersive documentation. Narrative Designers bridge the gap between creative vision and player immersion, creating rich narrative layers that enhance the game world and provide context for gameplay.

This role encompasses everything from writing faction histories and character arcs to designing codex entries, creating in-game text and dialogue, developing world-building documentation, and crafting narrative frameworks that support gameplay systems. Writers use creative storytelling, world-building expertise, and documentation skills to build believable, engaging game universes.


Core Responsibilities

Develop World Lore: Faction histories, world events, technological evolution, cultural development

Write Character Backstories: Player characters, NPCs, enemy factions, important figures

Create Creature/Object Dossiers: Technical specifications, lore context, discovery information

Design Codex Entries: Collectible lore, bestiary entries, item descriptions, location histories

Write In-Game Text: Item descriptions, objective text, UI copy, loading screen tips

Craft Dialogue: Character conversations, radio chatter, mission briefings, environmental storytelling

Build Wiki Content: Comprehensive documentation for community wikis and databases

Design Narrative Systems: Lore delivery methods, progression of story information, player discovery

Collaborate Cross-Discipline: Work with designers, artists, programmers on narrative integration

Maintain Consistency: Ensure lore coherence, consistent tone, no contradictions across content
